Project Description

Innovative. State-of-the-art. Exceptional. All words used to define the 2009 New American Home. Utilizing revolutionary sustainable design, this home optimizes energy efficiency while minimizing environmental impact. The 4 level home features a courtyard with custom pool, a rejuvenation room, an indoor waterfall and a wine storage.

ICF was utilized for the basement and the majority of the structural walls. The rectilinear design and solid wall thickness offered deep recesses to feature finishing detailing at door and window openings.

With the exterior of the home enveloped in ICF and including such initiatives as low e-coated windows, gas powered HVAC with a SEER rating of 18 and a photovoltaic system for energy, it is estimated to use only 4,239 kWh/year in electricity. The home has received a HERS rating of 37. It has been certified gold to the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines by the National Green Building Program.

The inherent benefits of using ICF in a sustainable New American Home are not limited to energy savings and security. With an aggressive construction schedule, ICF was installed quickly and contributed to meeting the completion deadline. The ICF team was available throughout the design and construction process.

The 2009 New American Home is the model home for the Marquis Las Vegas development and has won a 2008 ICF Builder Award.

Energy Efficiency ICF provide comfort and energy efficiency, allowing the HVAC system to keep the indoor temperature cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. With its high R-values, low air infiltration and high thermal mass, homes built with ICF can use a smaller HVAC system, therefore saving on heating and cooling costs.

Design Flexibility ICF allows for design creativity as the forms can be easily cut into any shape – from curved walls to window arches – and any interior and exterior finish can be applied directly to the EPS (expanded polystyrene) panels.

Health and Comfort A strong ICF home provides a healthier environment for the owner. ICF walls do not contain organic material; therefore there is no release of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and no off-gassing. And with a solid concrete wall, there are no cavities to trap moisture and create mold.

Noise Reduction The combination of concrete encapsulated within high density expanded polystyrene provides a superior barrier to the sounds and noises of the outside environment. This creates a comfortable surrounding in which to live.
